Northern Ireland Repair Grants: Frequently Asked Questions

1. What size of grant can I apply for?
You can apply for a grant of between £10,000 and £100,000

2. Is there a deadline for applications?
Yes. The deadlines for the current scheme are the 30 September 2008 and the 31 March 2009.

3. How long does it take before I get a decision about my project?
Most applications to Repair grants for places of worship must go through a two-stage process. You should normally receive a decision on your first-round grant application within six months of the application closing date. If you believe that your application can go straight to a second-round decision, then you must contact us and agree it in writing with us first.

4. How long can my project last for?
The repairs to your place of worship must be completed within two years of the grant offer.

5. Do I have to contribute anything towards my project?
We will always expect you to contribute towards the project costs from your own and other resources. We can support up to 75% of eligible project costs with a maximum grant of £100,000 including any development funding. There is no standard level of grant and we will tailor all offers to individual circumstances. The amount of funding we expect you to provide will depend on our assessment of your financial need.

6. My place of worship is unable to use Lottery money. Can you still help us?
The Repair Grants for Places of Worship scheme in Northern Ireland can only offer lottery funding. However, the Environment and Heritage Service Northern Ireland operate some grant schemes which may be helpful, and you should contact them for more information on www.ehsni.gov.uk.
