Your Heritage
Is it right for you?

1. Is your project concerned with heritage?

Heritage includes many things and places that have been, and can be, passed on from one generation to another. These range from historic buildings, public parks, and community oral history to our natural environment and museums.

2. Do you need a grant of £5,000 to £50,000?

We do not give grants of under £5,000 or over £50,000 under this programme.

3. Can you contribute to the costs of the project, either in cash or 'in-kind'?

We do not have a minimum requirement, however, we do look for some contribution to show your commitment to the project. This can be cash from your organisation or other partners, or 'in-kind' (eg volunteer time or other things you are usually required to pay for such as donated materials and premises).

4. Are you a not-for-profit organisation with a constitution and bank account?

Priority is given to not-for-profit organisations. To apply for a grant your organisation must have a constitution and a bank account.

5. Will your project either conserve/ enhance heritage and/or encourage more people to be involved in and make decisions about their heritage?

Your project may involve repairs to buildings or other heritage items, conservation work on land, buying heritage items, land or buildings.

Otherwise, your project may actively engage people in heritage activities. For example, your project could offer people opportunities to work with the heritage as volunteers or to participate in exploring and celebrating their local heritage.

6. Will your project increase opportunities for people to learn about, have access to, and enjoy their heritage?

Projects should involve people in activities which help them learn more about their own or other people's heritage. For example,  your project might include opportunities for direct and active learning by members of the community, or provide information and resources which enable people to have better understanding of heritage.

Projects should aim to get more people involved, especially disadvantaged groups and those who have not been involved in heritage before.
