This is Scotland’s year of Highland culture – a year long celebration of international, regional and community events and activities taking place in villages, towns and cities throughout the Highlands and Islands and beyond. HLF has collaborated with Highland 2007 to fund a exciting range of community heritage events. The last year has seen HLF invest almost £6million in 25 projects across the Highlands and Islands, bringing its total investment in the region to over £60million. HLF has shared the excitement of Highland 2007 and helped communities to have fun exploring their heritage, while leaving a legacy to benefit future generations

Highland 2007 - HLF Awards
Portrait of a Nation is a campaign being run in 2007 and 2008 by the Liverpool Culture Company, 18 member cities of the Urban Cultural Network, including Inverness and the Heritage Lottery Fund. A spectacular festival will be held at the end of 2008 to close the Liverpool European Capital of Culture. Highland Portraits will showcase young people's arts and heritage projects, exploring their heritage and local identity, revealing what is special to them about where they come from, their local culture and communities. The work incorporates traditional and contemporary music, gaelic song, step dance and the spoken word combined with with images of Highland culture and landscapes.
