Our achievements : Natural heritage
Lottery players are one of the biggest groups supporting the UK’s natural heritage with more than £600 million helping to safeguard our landscapes and parks, countryside and creatures.
£200 million is helping to sustain 1000 nature and conservation projects.
£380 million has been awarded to restore 245 historic parks ranging from urban and country parks to public gardens, squares, promenades and historic cemeteries.
More than half of these parks are in deprived areas.
We have funded projects to help species at risk including water voles, red squirrels and basking sharks.
Our support for heathland habitat protection and recreation has enabled English Nature to achieve over 80% of the Government lowland heath restoration target.
