Transport heritage: an assessment of needs and potential

In July 2000 the Heritage Lottery Fund commissioned research into the needs of four categories of transport heritage (aviation, buses and coaches, railways, small boats) in order to enhance its understanding of transport heritage.

Examining each category in turn before drawing some overarching conclusions, the attached report looks at issues as diverse as the availability of conservation skills, the public access potential of transport heritage, and the roles played by the different category organisations.

The research was undertaken by the Transport Trust from July 2000 until April 2001. The views represented in the document are those of the Transport Trust researchers and not of the Heritage Lottery Fund.
