Thinking about archaeology

There are three ways in which archaeology can be part of an HLF-funded project

  • If your project involves work on a historic building, park or landscape, you may need to do some archaeological investigation as part of that project.
  • We can fund projects that focus on archaeological information and making it more publicly available, such as improved access to records or the acquisition of archaeological objects.
  • We can also fund projects that seek to discover more about the past through archaeological investigation, such as a survey or excavation.

Useful for…

Any applicant whose project involves some form of archaeological activity. This may include projects that are focused on other kinds of heritage, such as works to a historic building or park, where some form of archaeological investigation is required. It will also help any application where some form of archaeological activity could provide another useful way of understanding the heritage.
