Repair Grants for Places of Worship: England

Programme budget : £10,000 to £250,000

The Repair Grants for Places of Worship scheme in England is run in partnership with English Heritage, who administers the scheme on behalf of both organisations.

Programme priorities

The scheme is for urgent repairs to the fabric of the building only and is open to all listed places of worship which are in regular use as public places of worship. We will not consider applications for other work (including proposals for new facilities) for a grant under this scheme.

Application process

Applications are dealt with in two competitive batches per financial year.  The closing dates for applications are as follows:

  • Places of worship listed grade I, II* – 30 June
  • Places of worship listed grade II – 30 September

NB If your place of worship is listed as category A, B or C, please contact your regional English Heritage office for advice on which batch you should apply under.

Applications are accepted from 1 April up to the closing date of each batch. Any applications received after the closing date will not be assessed unless there is a fabric emergency which cannot be tackled without grant aid from the scheme.

To apply for a grant you will need a hard copy of the application pack. Application material and guidance are available from the English Heritage website or call 0870 333 1181.
