2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games and heritage

Whether you’re an athletics fanatic or prefer your sports on a large, flat screen, chances are you also caught the Olympics bug last summer.

But did you know that HLF is also a keen sports fan? We’ve funded a number of projects celebrating sporting heritage, and we’re keen to fund more, especially in the wake of the 2012 Games in London.

From supporting young people to research the lives of inspirational cricketers and celebrating the history of British Deaf tennis, to redeveloping the museum in Much Wenlock, home of the forerunner of the modern Olympic Games, our projects bring sporting history to life.

We hope the below project examples inspire you to plan your own sports heritage project and apply to us for funding.
