What sort of projects does HLF fund?
We can fund all kinds of projects, as long as they are about an aspect of the local, regional or national heritage of the UK and they meet
our aims.
Does HLF have a special grants programme to fund projects that relate to the 2012 Games or sports heritage in general?
No. You can apply under any one of our existing grant programmes.
Is there a closing date for applications?
Young Roots and
Your Heritage are rolling programmes, and there are no deadlines for applications.
Heritage Grants is also a rolling programme, and there are no deadlines for applications for grants under £5million. We make decisions six times a year on Heritage Grants applications for grants over £1million.
If our project has an Inspire mark, are we more likely to get HLF funding?
It’s good to link up with other relevant initiatives, but having an Inspire mark won’t make your project more likely to receive an HLF grant. We focus on how well your project meets our aims.
Can we apply for funding to create a new museum for our sports collection?
We will only consider supporting a new museum or other new heritage attraction if it is based on an existing collection that is recognised as important by the appropriate heritage organisation (for example the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council in England).
