ROSALIND SAVILL

Rosalind Savill has worked at the Wallace Collection since 1974 and was appointed Director in 1992. After graduating from Leeds University she joined the Victoria and Albert Museum, firstly working as a cashier in the canteen and then as a member of the Ceramics Department, which she left to become Museum Assistant at the Wallace Collection. Ms Savill became Assistant to the Director in 1978 and in 1988 published The Wallace Collection Catalogue of Sèvres Porcelain in three volumes. This established her as the world authority on the subject and in 1990 she was awarded the National Art Collection Fund prize for her scholarship. In 2000 she received a CBE for her service to the study of ceramics. In 2005 Rosalind Savill won the Arts & Media category of the European Women of Achievement Awards (EWAA).

Since becoming Director, Rosalind has spearheaded a programme of gallery refurbishments, creating settings that reflect the quality of the works of art and evoke the ambience of the nineteenth-century house interiors. The investment was for the Centenary Project, which opened in 2000, providing 30% more public space, with a special emphasis on Education.

Ms Savill is an FSA, a member of National Trust Art's Panel; the Art Advisory Committee, National Museums and Galleries of Wales; the Museums and Collections Advisory Committee and for the Campaign for Museums. She is a governor of Camden School for Girls and President of the French Porcelain Society.
