Cookies

A cookie is a small amount of data which is sent to your browser from a website's computer and is stored on your device's hard drive.

Notice for users

Cookies collect information about how visitors use a website, for instance which pages visitors go to most often, and if they get error messages from web pages. These cookies don’t collect information that identifies a visitor. All information these cookies collect is aggregated and therefore anonymous. It is used to improve how a website works. By using our website, you agree that we can place these types of cookies on your device.

How does HLF use cookies?

The Heritage Lottery Fund website uses two cookies:

Cookie:[username]@hlf.org.uk
This cookie is used by Google Analytics, and is applied to every page of the HLF site. It stores three pieces of information about each visitor:
  • _utmz - where a visitor came from
  • _utma - each user's number of visits, the time of the first visit, the previous visit and the current visit.
  • _utmb, _utmc  - to check approximately how long someone stays on a site: when a visit starts and when it ends.
Google Analytics is a web analytics service provided by Google, Inc. Google stores the information collected by the cookie on servers in the United States. Google may also transfer this information to third parties where required to do so by law, or where such third parties process the information on Google's behalf. Google will not associate your IP address with any other data held by Google.

Cookie:[username]@youtube.com
This cookie is used by YouTube. It is only found on any pages containing embedded YouTube videos.

Other cookies set by third party sites

The HLF website also hosts links to various social media portals and offers options to ‘share’ information. When selecting a link and opting in to such a service, you may be presented with a cookie. HLF is not responsible for the content of third party websites and does not control the dissemination of these cookies. You should check the relevant third party website for further information.

How to control and delete cookies

HLF does not use cookies to collect personally identifiable information about you. We use them to help us provide you with a better service. However, if you wish to restrict or block any cookies you can do this through your browser settings. The Help function within your browser should tell you how.
Visit the Google website to find out how to reject or delete the Google Analytics cookie.

AboutCookies.org is an independent site which offers a guide to the use of cookies online. You can find general information about how to delete and control cookies through your browser.
