Repair Grants for Places of Worship: Wales
Is this the right grant for you?
1. Is your place of worship listed?
We only fund projects of listed buildings. If you are not sure whether your place of worship is listed, or whether it needs to be surveyed again, please check with Cadw.
2. Is your place of worship used for public worship at least six times a year?
The place of worship needs to be used for this purpose at least six times a year.
3. Is your place of worship a cathedral of any denomination, a monastery, a nunnery, a school or hospital chapel, or is it privately owned?
If so, your project does not qualify.
4. Do you provide public access to your place of worship outside the usual hours of worship?
To qualify for a grant, we will expect you to provide regular advertised public access to the building for at least 40 days a year.
5. Is your project for high-level structural repairs (for example, repairing roofs, towers, spires, high-level masonry or the system for getting rid of rainwater) or repairs to the historic parts of the building that are at risk of being damaged beyond repair?
We only fund projects for repairs of this nature.
6. Has the repair work been identified in a recent condition survey (for example, quinquennial (five-yearly) inspection or other professional report as being necessary within the next two years?
You will not qualify unless you provide a copy of a report which confirms how urgent the repair work is.
7. Can the repairs be carried out under one building contract?
If not, you may have to consider phasing your project. You will not qualify unless you can show that more than one contract is necessary for a single phase of repairs.
8. Is the estimated total cost of your project less than £250,000?
If not, you do not qualify. We will only consider you for a grant in very exceptional circumstances if you cannot divide the work and all the repairs are equally urgent.
9. Is the estimated cost of your project more than £10,000?
We only fund projects more than £10,000.
If you think your project could qualify for a grant and you should now read the rest of the application pack and complete a pre-application form.
If your project does not qualify for this grant, one of our other schemes may be able to help you. Please contact our office in Wales to discuss this.
