Our achievements : Industrial, maritime and transport heritage


  • These types of heritage are very popular – 8-9 million people visit preserved railways each year.

  • £378 million has been awarded to 644 industrial, maritime or transport projects. For example nearly £600k has been given to the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway Trust to repair the train that runs along the West Riding, Yorkshire where ‘The Railway Children’ was filmed.

  • £37.7million has been granted to preserve and open up 40 historic ships including The Waverley Paddle Steamer, which now offers trips around the coast of Britain in Summer again, HMS Belfast and HMS Warrior.  In Bristol,SS Great Britain –the world’s first passenger ocean liner, is being restored and preserved for visitors to enjoy.
