Project: Letchworth Garden City, Howard Park & Gardens

The National Lottery has today announced that Howard Park and Gardens in Letchworth Garden City is on track for a major transformation with a development grant to back exciting regeneration plans. North Hertfordshire District Council has been awarded £128,500 to further develop their £1,841,000 scheme to transform and regenerate Howard Park and Gardens. The go-ahead has come from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and the Big Lottery Fund’s £160million ‘Parks for People’ initiative.  Click for more

The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) has announced grants to secure the future of two very different elements of Cambridge’s rich artistic past. St Botolph’s Church in the city centre has received a £80,200 grant to restore its Victorian wall paintings, whilst New Hall, a College of the University of Cambridge, has been awarded £99,900 to conserve and open up its contemporary art collection for many more visitors to enjoy. Click for more

The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) has pledged* £5million to conserve and significantly improve Epping Forest for visitors. The former Royal Hunting Forest is an historic gem and London’s biggest green space, with internationally important biodiversity and landscapes, ancient trees and grazing cattle forming the ultimate escape from city life. Click for more


Project: Binham Priory Access and Conservation Project

The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) has awarded grants totalling more than £850,000 to conserve and open up two very different elements of Norfolk’s rich heritage. Binham Priory in North Norfolk will receive £648,500 for a major conservation project, whilst a £207,000 grant for Norfolk Wildlife Trust will enable the public to learn more about the many habitats on their doorstep. Click for more


Project: Charles Darwin the Geologist: An Exhibition

Two of Cambridge University’s most important institutions have received grants totalling £725,500 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF). The Fitzwilliam Museum has been awarded £206,500 towards the purchase of an important collection of Anglo-Saxon coins, and the Sedgwick Museum of Geology has received £519,000 to celebrate the geological work of Charles Darwin with a new exhibition and fun activities for families. Click for more

The recent announcement that the Heritage Lottery Fund had confirmed the grant of £839,000.00 for the complete restoration of Lydia Eva (the world's last surviving steam-powered herring drifter) was greeted by Charitable Trust Chairman, Alan Bagley, as "absolutely wonderful news". Click for more


Project: World's No 1 Paper Mill

The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) has secured the future of one of the world’s first paper mills, based in Apsley, near Hemel Hempstead in Hertfordshire. HLF has earmarked* £1 million for a major restoration programme, and awarded development funding of £28,000 to help work up final plans for the scheme, which will preserve and open up the mill for future generations. Click for more


Project: Access to Wildlife at Hempton Marsh Reserve

The Norfolk Ornithologists Association will open its reserve at Hempton Marsh near Fakenham to visitors, thanks to a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The £49,900 grant will enable the Association to fund the construction of 350m of boardwalk and 2 bird hides on the reserve, providing wheelchair access. This will enable visitors to enjoy this rare meadow and woodland habitat while protecting the fragile nature of the reserve, which is on waterlogged ground. Click for more
