The Fens: Chatteris, March, Whittlesey and Wisbech

Over the years the Fens have changed; from being largely under water, to becoming an area of rich farmland accessible only after successful drainage began in the 17th century.

From anti-slavery to modern archaeology, HLF have helped a variety of projects based in the Fens. Some examples of these can be seen at the foot of this page.

Although there have been successful projects funded in the Fens, it continues to be an area where we would be interested in funding more. We are working with the organisations on the right of this page, as well as conducting our own outreach work with dedicated HLF Development Officers, to help encourage organisations from the Fens who may be considering whether to apply to us for a grant.

Does your group work with the community? Do you have an idea for a project that may have a heritage theme? Would you like to know more about our grants and how to apply to us?

If so, then please contact us or come along to one of our presentations or surgeries.

The Development Officer for this area is Jonathan Latchford who works closely with many community groups and will be happy to give you bespoke advice. He can be contacted on 01223 224 883 or by email: jonathanl@hlf.org.uk.
