Harrow has a rich heritage dating back to pre-Roman days. Besides the great country houses at West House and Bentley Priory, there is one of England’s last remaining moated manor houses at Headstone Manor, site of the borough’s museum. Harrow’s role as a pre-eminent seat of learning is represented by Harrow School, which educated eight of Britain’s Prime Ministers. Harrow also has a generous selection of historic churches, including St Lawrence Church, and interesting historic town centres in Harrow on the Hill and Pinner. In contrast, Harrow has an extensive green heritage of parks, woodland and countryside, including Canon’s Park and Grim’s Dyke Hotel and Gardens. Harrow’s community is diverse and growing in population, and there are many stories to be told about the borough’s changing heritage.
Harrow has recently been identified as a borough that has received less HLF funding than others. We are very keen to help more groups to apply for projects which investigate Harrow's diverse heritage. HLF’s development team is working in partnership with the London Borough of Harrow, Harrow Association of Voluntary Services and Harrow Heritage Trust to offer support and advice to potential applicants.
Norma Pearson is the Heritage Lottery Fund's London Development Officer with responsibility for supporting Harrow. She works closely with community organisations and council officers to promote our work and grant programmes and attends events in Harrow to develop interest in HLF and support the development of applications from the borough.
