From the world’s largest collection of steam pumping engines at Kew Bridge Steam Museum to the Cutty Sark in Greenwich, and from Camden’s Roundhouse to Shirley windmill in Croydon, centuries of ground-breaking engineering have left their mark in all corners of London.
The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) has awarded £89million to many volunteer groups and larger not-for-profit organisations, to help them look after the city’s precious industrial, maritime and transport heritage. But there is a lot left to do, with much of this proud heritage still at risk. We want even more groups to apply for funding to conserve it, help people learn about it, and pass on to younger generations the specialist skills needed to look after it.
In this leaflet we focus on HLF projects that conserve and celebrate London’s industrial past, and we give tips on making a strong application. We hope these inspire you to plan your own project – contact us for help with developing your ideas.
