Carole Souter, Chief Executive of Heritage Lottery Fund said: “This is fantastic news for Hull and Yorkshire. Having recently visited Derry~Londonderry, Capital of Culture 2013, I have seen the transformational effects first hand that this title can bring a city, and look forward to the exciting opportunities it will now bring the people of Hull in the future.
“The Heritage Lottery Fund has invested over £25million into projects across Hull, and heritage will play a pivotal role in the celebrations. From key city centre regeneration projects in St Andrews and East Park, to an important recent acquisition by the Ferens Art Gallery to save the Pietro Lorenzetti painting for the nation, we have supported projects large and small. This accolade we hope will encourage many more groups to come forward to apply for a grant so they can explore the heritage that matters to them.
“We are looking forward to working with Hull City Council to make this an amazing success and turn people’s dreams and ambitions into reality.”
