Project title:

 Gibson Mill Restoration

Programme: Heritage Grants
Applicant: The National Trust
Grant awarded: £967,000

The National Trust's Gibson Mill, a former 19th-century cotton mill in Yorkshire, has been restored to working order as a visitor attraction, community facility and education centre. All energy needed to run the mill is generated on-site using renewable sources. The original 1927 hydro-electric turbine has been restored to provide the electricity, with solar energy used when water levels are low.
