Project Snapshot

Project title:

 Involving young people

Programme: Young Roots
Applicant: Kirkby Stephen Grammer School
Grant awarded: £15,300

The students from Kirkby Stephen Grammar School believe that the Settle-Carlisle Railway is an important part of the heritage of their area. They have produced a film about the line’s construction, which features interviews with archivists and railway enthusiasts. The film shows what life would have been like for the engineers and navvies who built the impressive viaducts and tunnels that are a feature of the landscape.
