Project title:

 Towards the Great Fen vision

Programme: Heritage Grants
Applicant: The Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire and Peterborough
Grant awarded: £7,204,000

The Wildlife Trust in Cambridgeshire acquired over 1,300ha of arable land in order to recreate lost fenland habitat and reconnect two isolated National Nature Reserves. Wetland habitats are being restored and the shrinkage of peat is being stemmed, halting the release of as much carbon dioxide as 100,000 cars generate in one year. New routes across the fen will help local people and visitors to access this regenerating wilderness.
