Project Snapshot

Project title:

 Woodland butterflies and moths

Programme: Heritage Grants
Applicant: Butterfly Conservation
Grant awarded: £289,000

In 95 woodlands across the south east of England, habitat-management advice is addressing, on a landscape scale, the steep declines in scarce butterflies and moths. Training in identification and recording skills has helped volunteers generate more than 7,000 butterfly records. Unknown colonies of rare species, including Duke of Burgundy butterflies and black-veined moths, have also been discovered.
