Conservation

From helping to halt the decline in rare-species populations to enabling repair work on historic locomotives, our grants help groups and organisations of different types and sizes conserve the UK’s diverse heritage.

Specialist intervention is tackling the fall in the number of red-barbed ants and freshwater pearl mussels, and many historic buildings, such as the last surviving court of back-to-back housing in Birmingham, have been repaired and transformed for future generations to enjoy.

Our funding is also enabling the restoration of bandstands and other lost features in historic parks, as well as the conservation of numerous heritage vessels, engines and vehicles by volunteer groups. And our grants are proving invaluable in conserving material held in archives and libraries as well as objects in museums and galleries, from Liverpool City Archives to the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
