Local transport

By train

The best way to get to the Scotland office is by train to Waverley Station. Exit Waverley station onto Waverley Bridge or via the escalators or stairs onto Princes Street. From Waverley Bridge exit turn right towards Princes Street. On Princes Street continue in the direction of Edinburgh Castle. At the National Galleries turn right onto Hanover Street. Continue on Hanover Street, crossing over George Street. Then turn left onto Thistle Street. We are at number 38, next to Cox & Co. Estate Agents.

By coach

Edinburgh Bus Station is used for medium to long distance bus services operating beyond Edinburgh to destinations in Scotland and the rest of the UK. Local bus services for Edinburgh use on street bus stops around the city.

Exit into St Andrews Square from the Bus Station. Cross the road, walking around the square and exit into George Street. Walk along George Street and take the first right onto Hanover Street. Walk down Hanover Street and then turn left onto Thistle Street. We are at number 38, next to Murray and Currie Estate Agents.

By bus

There are a number of local buses that come into the City Centre. For more information you can contact Lothian Buses on 0131 555 6363 or visit the Lothian Buses website. While the tram works are in operation, and Princess Street is closed to all traffic, the most convenient bus stops for our office are located on George Street.

By car

The Heritage Lottery Fund Offices are located in the centre of Edinburgh; please follow signs for the city centre from all directions. Our postcode is EH2 1EN for satellite navigation.

There is on street parking on Thistle Street which is pay and display, but this is short stay parking and generally very busy. There is a maximum parking time of three hours at a cost of £3.50 per hour. The nearest car park is St James Centre NCP, off York Place or Leith Street, which is about a 10 minute walk from our office. However, all city centre car parks are within walking distance from the office.

By tram

If arriving by air, you can get the Tram into the centre of Edinburgh – the tram terminates at York Place right in the heart of the city but for our offices you should alight at the Princess Street stop.  You should then cross over Princes Street towards the shops and head up Hanover Street, over George Street which runs parallel to Princes Street and Thistle Street is the next street running parallel.  We are located a short walk around the corner and next to Cox & Co the Estate Agents.

By taxi

From Waverley Train Station takes approximately five minutes and costs between £4 and £6.

Blue Badge parking scheme

Edinburgh City Council operates a Blue Badge parking scheme. A Blue Badge allows you to park free of charge in on-street bays such as pay and display and designated disabled parking bays. Thistle Street has a number of pay and display bays outside our office although they tend to be heavily used. View a list of current bays on the Edinburgh City Council website.

Please note the HLF Scotland office is part of a shared office building.
