Sector research and reports

Lots of research is undertaken every year to analyse the world of charitable giving, track trends and study donor behaviours.

For example, the Coutts Million Dollar Donors report 2014 was released recently. The report notes a rise in the number of UK donations of almost 50% when compared with last year, whilst the total value of those donations rose only modestly from £1.35billion in 2012 to £1.36billion in 2013. Whilst Higher Education institutions continue to attract the highest proportion of donations at £552.1m, Arts, Culture and Humanities organisations sit in 4th place with 25 million pound plus gifts equating to £91.03m.  You can find out more in  the section of the report focusing on the UK and read interviews with donors in the Case Study section of the report.

Please use the comments below to share further reports, insights and articles with the community as you come across them.

I'd be particularly interested in hearing about resources that might not be written specifically for heritage organisations, but with principles and learnings that could be applied across sectors.

  1. Hi all,

I came across a report the other day and thought it might be of interest to the Catalyst community: A Better Ask: The future of fundraising in an aging society

Written by the Commission on the Voluntary Sector & Ageing and New Philanthropy Capital, the paper explores the implications of an increasingly diverse and ageing demographic on organisations and their fundraising. It follows a roundtable event and series of conversations held with individual fundraisers in June 2014.

The writers are looking for feedback on the discussion points raised, there’s already quite a bit of activity on the hashtag #AgeOpportunity if you wanted to add to the debate…
