At the beginning of August 2016 we saw some changes being introduced to the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) trainee cards which allow trainees access to sites while they undertake their construction related qualifications. CSCS says that introducing a single Trainee card will remove some of the complexity that has surrounded the scheme both for trainees and their employers.
There will now be just one Trainee card irrespective of occupation which will be red and clearly marked ‘Trainee’ so that those in the process of obtaining formal qualifications are easily identifiable to others on site.
Before applying for the card an applicant must register for a CSCS recognised construction-related qualification and have completed the appropriate CITB Health and Safety & Environment Test. The card will be valid for five years and will be non –renewable. Applicants must complete their qualification before the card expires. Once they have completed their qualification then applicants can apply for a Skilled CSCS card.
For information on CSCS cards the visit their website https://www.cscs.uk.com/ .
We would welcome your thoughts and comments about CSCS cards and the changes made to the Trainee one.
