Digital technology in heritage projects

This guidance is designed to help you think about an application to HLF for a project which uses digital technology.

Please be aware that we have specific requirements, set out in our Terms of Grant, for licensing HLF-funded digital outputs for public use. This guidance will help you understand our requirements and how to plan your project to meet them.

We are using the term digital output to cover anything you create in your HLF project in a digital format which is designed to give access to heritage and / or to help people engage with and learn about heritage; for example a collection of digital images or sound files, an online heritage resource or exhibition, or a smartphone app. The requirements do not apply to digital material that has no heritage content or does not engage people with heritage; eg a website that contains only information about your organisation / project, visitor information or events listings.
