Leicester LGBT Heritage Project

This three-year project recorded the oral histories of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland's LGBT communities from before decriminalisation in 1967 to the present day.

The centre is the first of its kind to receive government funding.

20 volunteers received training in recording and editing oral histories. There were also a number of public events to engage the wider community – which took place during LGBT History Month in February.

The project launched with a display to attract new volunteers. This was further developed to create a touring exhibition following oral history research. The exhibition is now permanently on display at the centre. A DVD was also produced, which has been deposited at Leicestershire Records Office and Media Archive for Central England.
