Pupils at Ysgol Capelulo, a primary school in the village of Dwygyfylchi, Conwy, joined forces with local oral history group Stori Pen and other volunteers to work on a special project to mark the school’s centenary
As part of an after-school oral history group, around 30 pupils interviewed village residents about their memories of the school and the area. The interviews, along with photographs and artefacts collected by the pupils, formed the basis of a booklet, which was distributed to local libraries and made available online. Schoolchildren also created and performed a play, which was recorded for the Talking Newspaper for the Blind. A celebratory open weekend was held at the school, giving members of the community a chance to view the pupils’ work, which also included an exhibition. The project, which brought together both young and old, has shed light on the experiences of those living in the area since the school was founded in 1912.
