Pride in the Past

Pride in the Past explores and celebrates the LGBT heritage and archaeology of the city of Chester.

Chester Pride is an organisation which works to promote equality and diversity, advance education and eliminate discrimination towards LGBT people.

The Pride in the Past project will see the LGBT community undertake new record office research, offer a reinterpretation of selected objects from the historic collections of the Grosvenor Museum and share internationally significant documents relating to the trial of Alan Turing with the wider world. The Turing documents are internationally important and have never been displayed to the public before.

A contemporary collecting project will be established within Chester to curate and collect new items of significance for the LGBT community. In addition volunteers will collect oral histories and record recent memories about the LGBT community in Chester from the 1940s and 1950s to the present day.

The project will run a variety of public facing events throughout LGBT history month this year.
