 Welcome to Scotland

HLF in Scotland is supporting projects that create opportunities for volunteering, learning and celebrating our culture. The projects that we fund help to give people a sense of place and identity, igniting a passion for heritage, and regenerating communities.

Scotland’s heritage is a rich mix of stunning landscapes, historic buildings and unique collections and stories of our rural and industrial past.

We are keen to work with groups and organisations to develop projects that will give people a better opportunity to enjoy, learn about and look after their heritage.

If you are developing a heritage project then contact us for advice. The HLF team in Scotland provides a range of advice and support to help people apply for funding.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Priority development areas

We have identified a number of priority development areas within Scotland. They will be the focus of additional targeted activity by our development staff who will be doing more to raise awareness about Heritage Lottery Fund programmes and supporting local organisations and groups in making applications for grants in these areas. Priority development areas will not receive automatic funding but our aim is to generate a greater number of good quality bids from these areas which will be able to compete with applications from other places.

A number of factors were taken into account in identifying the priority development areas including lower levels of HLF spend so far. The priority development areas in Scotland are listed in the right hand column. We are also keen to hear from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) organisations or projects which target BAME communities.
