Glasgow is famous for its performing arts, architectural and cultural history – and Sauchiehall Street is no exception. Filled with iconic architecture and heritage as a hub of shopping and showbiz, landmarks on or near the street include Pavilion Theatre, the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, the National Trust's Willow Tearooms and Kings Theatre.

Now Glasgow Life in partnership with Glasgow City Council are leading a long-term effort to preserve heritage at risk on Sauchiehall Street and use culture and heritage to drive economic regeneration.

Planning and feasibility work will be made possible through this initial funding along with engagement with stakeholders, the local community and businesses to ensure their perspectives shape Sauchiehall Street’s future.

Caroline Clark, The National Lottery Heritage Fund Director for Scotland, said: “Sauchiehall Street has a rich heritage as a hub for culture, entertainment, shopping and nightlife, and as a home to a diverse community.

“We welcome this work as a starting point and a clear commitment to keep this iconic street at the heart of the story of Glasgow’s people and place.”

The project is being supported through our £200million Heritage Places initiative, which over 10 years will guide heritage regeneration in 20 places across the UK, including Glasgow.
