She is accountable for the strategic development of the buildings and infrastructure of the Parliamentary Estate. The Parliamentary Estate consists of over 28 buildings spanning four conservation areas and UNESCO World Westminster Heritage site.

As a Director at Marks Barfield Architects, Gemma worked closely with clients, stakeholders and communities. She is experienced in leading and building teams with a culture of trust, inclusion, building capability and creating sustainable measurable outcomes. Over her career she’s worked on many heritage projects that were facilitated and supported through National Lottery funding.

Gemma studied architecture at the Royal College of Art, and this taught her the importance of providing opportunity for creative art within the delivery of her work. She has been supportive in ensuring opportunities for emerging artists are embedded into building projects, such as the Cambridge Mosque and The Lightbox, Woking.

She also enjoys continuing to work with students as a visiting crit to the Architecture BA Hons course at Bath University, and has been a judge at the European Women in Construction and Engineering Awards.
