The Young Roots grants programme is aimed at young people aged between 11 and 25 to enable them to explore their heritage. They can even apply through their schools.

HLF would like to encourage more schools and colleges to consider applying for grants. Since April 2003 around £3.5million has been awarded to 145 projects in the East of England that have engaged with young people in learning about heritage.

Young people have led projects on a wide range of topics including aspects of the Second World War, Darwin, celebrating local history, and the environment and wildlife... and even a grant to record the history of local rock bands from the 60s and 70s!
