This project helped to transform the iconic A-listed building of the Glasgow School of Art, which is internationally recognised as Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s masterpiece.

The Glasgow School of Art is an icon of 20th century architecture and the only public Mackintosh building still fulfilling its original purpose. It also houses original Mackintosh furniture and related collections by key artists who trained at the school.

The project saw original features of the building restored, and unsympathetic additions removed. It also included conservation work to the School’s collections, encouraging visitor access to all the School’s heritage assets.

New gallery spaces and improved research centre facilities allow enhanced public and academic access to the School’s archives and collections. A new reception and information area have also been created to allow visitors to explore the history of the building, the collections and the School.
